How often do I mention we badly need rain?
Well, guess what!
We had some!
It didn’t last long. And I know it’s the proverbial drop in the bucket, but I still did a little happy dance.
The first good downpour occurred while I was still at work and although I wasn’t in a position to stand out and get a good soaking, I enjoyed some time on our little porch and took in the sound–and the long overdue fragrance of the world washed clean.
It was wonderful–for as long as it lasted.
Later the same day…
Maybe it will actually feel a little bit like Thanksgiving after all.
And here we have the irony.
I was hoping we could use our beautiful outdoor tent for our Thanksgiving gathering. When it’s 75 degrees, as typical, it’s certainly easier to move a large group outdoors than to crowd us into my average-sized dining room–or spread us out all over the house.
But weather reports warn I might be a little busy this week implementing “Plan B.”
Seems we might have rain next Thursday. I’m still saying “yippee”–but I wouldn’t be too disappointed if the rain makes an appearance Friday rather than Thursday.
I can plan for many things, but I’m not in charge of the weather, so we’ll see!
If rain visits your home on a regular basis I don’t suspect this video will mean much to you! But if you’re also in the parched southwest, well, you’ll understand why I stood outside my office and had to make a recording. It was lovely!
There’s a turkey already resting in the refrigerator and all the food assignments have been handed out. Now I just have to watch the weather reports to see where we’ll be seated!
But rain would still be nice. We hardly ever get to use the fireplace!

It would be hard to live without rain, Debra. You’re right. Something about it wipes the slate clean. Or, in our case tonight, ushers in cold weather.
I hope we do get a little bit more rain this week, Andra. No matter what day it comes! It isn’t very cold, so we can’t complain. I’ve seen the national weather predictions and we have no call to complain out here. LOL!

We are also in our rainy season now and getting plenty… the only problem is we’re also getting the hail the size of tennis balls that are doing damage in some areas… but water from above is always welcome no matter how…
Now that’s hail, Rob! I have never seen hail that size. I can’t imagine dodging boulders!:-)
We woke to fog yesterday. It was sodden with soft soaking misty rain, the kind that reaches right into the lungs. We had a reprieve for a few hours, but the foggy rain returned at dusk. We are well past the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, our present variety comes with plus or minus 3°C.
Oh that just sounds cold, Marie! Too cold to leave the fire. I hope you’re making good use of all that wonderful yarn you showed us recently! But not socks…big warm blankets! 🙂
The damp or wind can make the temperatures feel much colder than they really are. 😦 The fire is blazing and I am gazing at the yarn stash to decide where to begin. At times like these, I wish I had six hands!

That tent looks awesome ~ what a great place for family gatherings (weather permitting). How many of you will there be?
There will be 20 of us for Thanksgiving, Nancy, aged 1 to 82! The tent was a purchase last year when I found myself hosting two baby showers in the dead of summer! Then we used it for Thanksgiving for the first time and that was the easiest hosting we’d ever done. I didn’t have to move any furniture around and we weren’t crowded! We’ll take what comes and figure it out. It’s rain…not snow! LOL! If I cold be sure the tent is waterproof I might decide it’s still a good option, even in the rain! 🙂 I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving day, too…turkey-less, but yummy!
It’s awful to think some times how other parts of the world don’t get rain while others get an outpour causing devastations. We do need rain in California. Those waterfalls are drying up, and need resupply.
I am hoping that this early November rain is a good sign that there’s more to come this winter! There’s snow on Mt. Baldy right now, first since last spring, so that’s a good sign. 🙂
We have had four straight days with NO rain and may get several more like this. We’re enjoying a rare, persistent continental polar air mass that is diverting the rain down your way but keeping us dry (and COLD) during what should be our wettest time of the year.

Ah! So that’s where the rain came from! Fascinating, really. We rarely have rain at all in November, and there’s more coming, so perhaps that means you are still dry! The local weather guys have been having a good time with this little bit of rain. They must get so tired of saying the same thing day in and day out and trying to make it sound exciting…and they finally got a little change in the patterns! Thank you! 🙂
I hope the weather works to the best advantage for you – dry on Thursday, rainy on Friday. Here in the northeast, we’re already freezing, we jumped from fall straight into deep winter. It’s an unusually cold 23 degrees this morning and the winds are so heavy that the wind chill is only 10 degrees! They’re predicting rain and/or snow for Tuesday and Wednesday, but supposedly partly sunny skies for Thanksgiving. With the Wednesday before T’giving being the most heavily traveled day of the year, I really hope it’s not bad out for the sake of those travelers. People get nuttier and more stupid on the roads during rainstorms for some reason, and with the additional volume of traffic, well, let’s just say I’d like to see everyone make it to grandma’s house safely. 🙂 Have a very happy Thanksgiving Debra!
I’ve been following your cold snap! The freeze seemed to come on so quickly! I have a couple of friends traveling from California to the east coast this coming week, and so the talk has been hoping they don’t spend their Thanksgiving in an airport waiting for delayed flights to get moving! I have always been grateful that I don’t have to leave home for the holidays, so I’ll be sure to not complain if we get some rain! LOL! It will be a warm rain…I’ll just give everyone an umbrella. 🙂 I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving, too, my friend!
We too are having an unseasonal cold snap. Last night was 21 degrees with howling winds that made you snuggled with all the pets under the covers. Today is a high of 27. Two days ago we were bouncing near 60. Weather! I know your Thanksgiving will be wonderful no matter where it is.
A high of 27, Kate? Oh my goodness! Do you know I have never even felt it that cold. LOL! I’m such a wimp, I’m not sure what I’d do! LOL! You can’t cry–the tears would freeze! I do think that one of the reasons we go on and on about “cold” when it comes along is that we don’t own coats and boots and hats–I don’t actually own a “winter” wardrobe. I hope a warming trend is headed your way…at least a little one! And you enjoy your Thanksgiving, too…and a good week!

The sun is back in Santa Cruz. Dry enough now to rake fallen wet leaves, but still have to push the wheelbarrow through mud.

I so understand your feelings about the rain. It rained for two days and nights here and, you are right, more to come for Thanksgiving. Our reports out of Bakersfield, predict a high chance of rain for about three days then. I say great to that, but I have no big party planned. But visiting with family and being grateful is all that really matters for Thanksgiving and I know you will approach all the cooking and planning that way.

My sister says every day in LA is the same as the one before. Always blue skies. While I do prefer that to London weather, some variation is nice and like you say, you definitely need the rain. I’m loving hearing about your Thanksgiving plans and would love to see some images of how the day pans out, if you’re willing to share. I will definitely try to take some photos, Charlie. My family is camera-shy, but I will certainly take photos if we end up outdoors. It’s such a nice way for us to gather. Your sister is pretty accurate! I do notice some subtleties in weather changes, but for the most part, we do not vary much! 🙂 Thankfully, if it’s going to be the same from one day to the next, I’m grateful it’s mostly warm and sunny! 🙂

In Oregon it rains almost daily during the winter time. It is for this reason, I am smiling because we gave cold weather but with sunshine the past few days. I enjoyed watching the video and seeing the young men waving. 🙂 May your Thanksgiving be without rain and a joyful one.

I spent the day figuring out where we’ll sit on Thursday if the rain really does make an appearance! I’m so thrilled with the rain, but it is honestly quite humorous to me that it doesn’t rain more than about once every three months and it might arrive on the day my house is full! Even in the rain it won’t be cold, so maybe I’ll send everyone outdoors with umbrellas. LOL!
Oh Debra, as soon as I read that about the umbrellas I pictured everyone fancied up, sitting with colored umbrellas and food so delicious they didn’t even notice! 🙂 Good luck with the planning.

It is frigidly cold here, with some snow flurries. Brrr! Our turkey is resting in the refrigerator, as well, and cleaning is on the agenda for now.
Here’s hoping that the weather is perfect for you and your guests to eat in the tent, THEN, after all the food and dishes and such are brought in, a soft rain and dessert in front of your fireplace.
Indeed, we did get some rain! And why is it that it rains after you get your car washed, Debra? LOL
