Vacation over…It’s back to work Monday!

I had a wonderful week…but I have had my last swim in the ocean for a while!

I took off my hat and combed my hair…

Made sure everything was in order…

Are we absolutely sure I can’t spend one more week at the beach?

Alright, I guess I’m ready to get back to work now!

  1. Welcome home!!!! Love the pelican!! Did he come back with you to add to your menagerie? He seems to have taken a liking to you. :-) Glad to have you back, breathing lighter!

    • I’m so sorry you had trouble signing in as yourself! I’m not the most patient with technical difficulties, so I’m glad you hung in there! Yes, we came home refreshed, and I am rested…can’t do better than that! :-) oxo

    • The pelicans were in high performance mode, Kate. I have never seen so many of them preening and posing for photographs. Hope you do have a good week, too…I’m feeling rested and much more resilient as a result of a break in schedules and routines. We need to remember to take mini-breaks more frequently I think! :-) Debra

    • I’m glad you enjoyed the photographs, Sharyn. I took so many I may be sharing bits and pieces of vacation a bit longer! Hope you enjoyed your Woody Guthrie musical event! I would love to hear you sing and play sometime… :-) Debra

      • Well, I do have one CD, called “Paris,” after a song written well before this trip. You can find it here at CD Baby where you can listen to short clips. I have nothing downloadable if that’s the way you take your music, but I can sell you a CD for $18 ($15, plus postage), or you can get one from CD Baby. If you want to hear a live show I don’t know what to tell you at this point — there will be more, eventually. http://cdbaby.com/cd/SharynDimmick.

    • Thank you so much! I am never quite ready to come home, but it was time well spent. I’m more relaxed and rested–we all need breaks once in awhile, don’t we! I hope you have a good week, too. :-) Thanks for sharing with me! Debra

    • Thank you for noticing the new look to the blog, Marie. It was so nice to actually have some time to sit down and update and refresh my own blog page. And blue and ocean need to stay with me a little bit longer! :-) I hope you have a good week!! Debra

    • Thanks for stopping by Barb…yes, these pelicans are the oddest birds! I wish I had the photographic ability to capture a shot of them diving into the ocean and coming back up with a mouthfull! I could watch them for hours! I sort of did! Ha! Debra

    • Thank you, Claire! You must see a lot of interesting sea birds in your daily life at the shore! I think there’s a good reason I don’t live any closer to the ocean…I would be totally unproductive! :-) We live about an hour away…and why I’m not “down there” even more often is a mystery. I need to remedy that! Debra

  2. Love this Debra. So pleased you enjoyed your vacation. My last run in with a Pelican was not pleasant. The naughty birdie stole my fish and chips, so I said a rude word to him.

    • Thank you so much, Tricia. I think it would be a little frightening to have one of these big guys come at me to grab my lunch! When I picture your experience I do have to laugh though, simply at the absurdity! Rude words would fly from my mouth, too, I’m sure! :-) Hope you have a healing week, my friend. I hope you are taking very good care of yourself. oxo Debra

    • Thank you indeed, Kristy! Yes, I took so many pictures you’ll probably be hearing more about Newport/Balboa over the next couple of weeks. I can’t quite let go yet! But the memories are strong, and it was the first year that Sophia (4 1/2) really, really took to the ocean! We couldn’t get her out of the waves, and Karina, now three, had much more independence than last year. As much as I have wonderful memories, my major goal is creating memories for them! That means everything to me, and I know you understand that. Have a wonderful week… :-) Debra

    • Thank you for sharing that piece of information with me! I hadn’t tracked anything specifically about the brown pelican for a while now. I remember the concern about their dwindling numbers, but hadn’t thought about it this week. We did notice so many more than ever before, and we’ve stayed at the same location for twenty years. So good news on their come back. I’m curious now and want to learn a bit more…thank you! Debra

    • I’m a little late on getting back to comments, Penny, but I did want to reply on my experience with the photogenic pelican! One of the other SoCal bloggers told me that the Brown Pelican is making a good comeback after being in real decline. I saw evidence of that! They were all over the place, and unusually tame. The little guy in my photo was actually showing off a bit! I want to do a little research to learn a bit more…they are a new fascination for me now! :-) D

    • Thank you, Nancy. I’m reminding myself that the only reason we don’t have more vacation time is that we don’t prioritize it! It’s my own doing…so I feel empowered to visit the beach a lot more often!! :-)

    • Thank you for your soulful comment about my encounter with Pelicans while on vacation. I have had several experiences “with them” in the past couple of weeks, including one since I came home! I am planning to put a little time into learning more about these interesting creatures, because in some way, I am wondering if there is a significance for me, Dee. I would have known you’d be the one to make that connection, too! :-) oxo Debra

  3. What lovely images Debra. They really do set the scene. I’m always like that at the end of a holiday – ‘Are you sure we can’t spend another week?’ And going away to the beach really makes you feel like you’ve had a summer vacation. Sorry to hear you’re back at work! xx

    • I hope you enjoyed my little Pelican friend, Charlie. He was quite comfortable taking care of himself and not worrying at all about who was watching him! I think we could all take a lesson in self-care! :-) Debra

    • Thank you, Frank. I’m glad you didn’t miss Mr. Pelican. He was quite a character. I think this year I’m purposing to keep the vacation feeling going on a bit longer. I will probably be sharing more pictures…remember the days of sitting watching a friend share hundreds of slides after they returned from their vacation. I hope I don’t go too far. LOL! I may have to be told to stop at some point! :-) Debra

I always enjoy hearing from you!
